Trying to branch out

I was thinking how I could possibly branch out today...

I was thinking how I could possibly branch out today, and decided I would try and find some niche subreddits.

I tried to post a link to (here)[https://lukes-blog.vercel.app/posts/013-SysML-course-outline] on r/InstrucitonalDesign, but the post was deleted. I looked up why and it was talking about karma (upvotes/likes) limits per subreddit to post. I tried r/SysML thinking that they might not have any karma restrictions due to their size, and the post was banned there.

I took the hint, and tried a newbie oriented subreddit called r/NewToReddit. I had seen a post about concerns over downvotes, how it could be related to disagreements (I think?), and I wanted some answers of my own. I asked the following:

" Is there a way a way to productively disagree with a community on reddit? Are the sources of friction largely due to misunderstanding between the writer and reader? If so, can this be reconciled by having a clear line of reasoning?

One way I've thought of, and shown with the next example, is to state what your values are, the context that you are in, the interpretation of said values into the context, as well as potential consequences (intended or not).

For example, I value autonomy. Due to the fact that I value autonomy while being in the context of r/NewToReddit, I have the perspective that people (myself included) should be able to have relative freedom in what they say. Though, this might cause conflict due to differing values and boundaries on what is and is not okay. "

There was a couple of responses, some of it was a little helpful. The post was then restricted to people with special flairs (like badges?), and then removed. I was told to message the mod team at r/NewToReddit, and they told me I was shadow banned and to appeal it at a link. I appealed, and now I get to twiddle my thumbs. Bear in mind this all happened in less than an hour.

I can see how people get polarized online with stuff like this.

I'm thinking of finding some forums (maybe?), and try to find people I can talk to about things like SysML/Instructional design. If anyone has any recommendations, I would love to hear them.
